Dr Tilman Davies

Tilman completed his doctorate at Massey University (Palmerston North, New Zealand), before which he studied at the University of Western Australia (Perth, Australia), and spent time working at research organisations in Melbourne and in the USA. He is currently a senior lecturer at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics here at the University of Otago. His research interests stem from kernel smoothing methods and have since expanded to encapsulate a variety of spatial and spatio-temporal problems. When not engaged in spatial activities, he enjoys good craft beer and destroying pixels via his Playstation.

Prof Martin Hazelton

Since graduating with a PhD in statistics from Oxford and working at universities across the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, Professor Martin Hazelton has become a prolific researcher with interests in smoothing methods, network tomography and transport modelling, and spatial statistics. Currently, Martin is the Head of Statistics within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Otago. Favoured leisure activities include crosswords, football and chess.

Prof Adrian Baddeley

Adrian is a recognised international researcher in the field of spatial point process statistics, with scores of publications in top statistics journals and numerous scientific prizes and affiliations. He is currently a John Curtin Distinguished Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. In his spare time he enjoys underwater photography and learning to fly aeroplanes.

Dr Hongbin Guo

Hongbin joins SAGO as a postdoctoral research fellow, following the award of his PhD in statistics from the University of Auckland in 2019. Working with Dr Tilman Davies, Prof Martin Hazelton and Prof Adrian Baddeley, he is currently tackling difficult tasks in disentangling deterministic and stochastic effects in spatial point processes. Hongbin is a senior in novel-reading, piano-playing, and PC-games.

Anna Redmond

After completing a first-class honours degree in Statistics at Otago, Anna is now studying towards her PhD. She is researching spatial patterns in muscle fibres, under the supervision of Dr Tilman Davies, Dr Matt Schofield (Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics) and Associate Professor Phil Sheard (Dept. of Physiology). Outside of university, Anna spends much of her time playing the flugelhorn in a brass band.
